As joyous as it is intense, with a heart as big as Texas, ONE ACT is an immersive documentary taking you behind the curtain of a high-stakes, higher-drama, race against the clock: the annual UIL ONE-ACT PLAY, the largest theatrical competition in the world. Over one relentless season, young artists and their teachers are tested as creativity and discipline collide in a culture where theatre trophies rival football wins.

This is FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, but with actual drama.

You can be part of the story! Help us finish our film in time to celebrate One-Act Play’s 100th year of competition (That’s 2027!). With your support we can share this life-changing program and these unforgettable artists with the world. Were you a One Act kid? List your years and wins in the payment note box. Let’s get decades of OAP in the credits!

Many of the greatest pieces of theatre I have ever seen have been on the UIL stage, as well as some of my favorite memories. I have built friendships that feel closer than family. I now think about theatre and drama in a whole new way, driving me to go to film school at UT Austin in a few months.
